Cagliari-Lecce ends 1-1

First Team - 5 May 2024

A 1-1 draw at the Unipol Domus between Cagliari and Lecce, with the red-blues ahead thanks to Mina in the first quarter of the match, the Salentini equalised in the closing minutes, but the challenge was characterised by the red card given to Gianluca Gaetano in the 44th minute for an entrance in midfield. Match with two faces, one point each, and the salvation race continues with three matches to go.

Ranieri rejoined Pavoletti in the squad and deployed Lapadula up front with Luvumbo and Gaetano in support. In the middle Makoumbou and Deiola, on the right is Nandez. Defence with Zappa and Augello on the outside, Dossena and Mina in the centre. All in front of Scuffet.

Cagliari led the dance for the entire first half, pushing hard with every possession. In the 18th minute Nandez deflects Deiola’s shot from outside the area into the goal, but the touch is with his hand and the goal is cancelled. The goal came in the 26th minute when Mina put in the winning goal. The match passed without a stir, with Cagliari controlling and giving the idea of being able to extend. But in the 44th minute, Gaetano intervened on Ramadani: for Marcenaro it was yellow, for Abisso at the VAR it was red.

The resumption took on a different aspect. In come Sulemana and Wieteska for Lapadula and Zappa. Lecce presses, Cagliari defends neatly: yellow cards fly (Sansone, Ramadani, Scuffet, Baschirotto, Nandez, Deiola, Augello), Gallo (high), Dossena (header parried), Perotti (Scuffet blocks), and in the 84th minute Kristovic makes it 1-1 on Almqvist’s cross from the right. In the closing stages Samson’s post and Kristovic failed to find the tap-in, in the 89th minute Scuffet twice saved on Blin and Gendrey. That was the end.
