Match report | Monza-Cagliari

First Team - 16 March 2024

Defeat in Monza for Cagliari: at the U-Power Stadium a balanced match ended 1-0 for the hosts thanks to a free kick by Maldini in the final phase of the first half.

CHOICES
Ranieri confirms Scuffet between the posts with Zappa on the right and Augello on the left, in the middle Dossena and Wieteska. In midfield are Makoumbou and Deiola with Nandez and Jankto on the outsides. Lapadula and Shomurodov in attack.

OPEN MATCH
Monza had the first chance of the match in the 2nd minute with Maldini: his conclusion, however, finished outside. Nandez replied after five minutes, the Uruguayan kicking out after being served by Augello. Lots of intensity and desire to make an impact from the offensive pair Shomurodov and Lapadula: it’s the Peruvian who makes himself dangerous in the 31st minute with a free-kick from the edge of the box that passes under the barrier, the ball just out.

MONZA ADVANTAGE
In the 42nd minute, however, it was Monza to unblock the match with a free-kick from Maldini that hit the crossbar and went over the goal line. The score was 1-0 at the break.

CAGLIARI TRIES
Double substitutions at the start of the second half for Cagliari: Oristanio and Prati came in, Makoumbou and Jankto came out. In the 49th minute, Colpani crosses into the middle and finds Dany Mota: the ball misses the target. The red and blues’ first danger of the second half in the 64th minute: Lapadula passes to Deiola who shoots from outside the box but the ball goes just wide thanks to a deflection by the red and white defence. In the 68th minute Lapadula found the goal on a turn but the goal was cancelled out for offside.

NOTHING IN FACT
Monza tried first with Pessina, then Colpani but the red and blue defence held out. In the 83rd minute Colombo wastes a great chance on one-on-one with Scuffet: he tries a dig but the ball ends up out. For the final minutes Ranieri sent on Azzi, Viola and Kingstone in place of Augello, Deiola and Shomurodov. Colombo tried again in the 93rd minute but found the Friuli goalkeeper ready. It ended 1-0 to the hosts at the U-Power Stadium.
