Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the appointment of Pierluigi Carta as the Sporting Director.

Born in Cagliari on April 13, 1978, Carta took his first steps as a sports executive with the team of his hometown. At just 28, he began collaborating with the club in the sports management department, standing out for dedication, seriousness, and competence.

With the acquisition of the club by President Giulini, he continued his professional growth, supporting both the first team and the youth sector. In early 2016, he moved to Olbia, where he immediately achieved promotion to the professional ranks. In Gallura, Carta established himself as a modern Sporting Director, applying his organizational and managerial skills to the entire club, serving as a crucial link between the field and the offices. Under his management, the club consistently achieved the goal of remaining in Lega Pro, facilitating the integration of many promising young talents, several of whom came from the Cagliari youth academy. Following this successful work, Cagliari offered him the opportunity to return home to oversee the youth sector as the head, a position he held from July 2019.

Inheriting the legacy of his predecessors, under his guidance, the youth sector continued to grow and improve. The Primavera consistently held top positions in the standings, with the recently concluded season finishing in second place after the COVID-19 imposed halt, highlighted by the debut of four young players in the first team. The national teams U17, U16, and U15 also performed well until the suspension in March, positioning themselves in playoff zones. The results achieved extended beyond the sporting sphere. With his managerial approach, Carta worked comprehensively on the entire structure, improving organizational aspects, and consistently driving the development strategies of the youth academy.

Now, Carta receives another promotion, the culmination of a professional journey that began many years ago with Cagliari. As Sporting Director, he will lead a new technical project, overseeing both the first team and the youth sector. This will be a collaborative effort, as he will be assisted by Andrea Cossu, the first collaborator of the Sporting Director, overseeing all club acquisitions, and Roberto Colombo, managing the monitoring of all Cagliari players on loan and handling international relations.

The new Sports Director will make his ideas, experience and skills brilliantly demonstrated so far available to Cagliari.

Congratulations, Pierluigi, and good luck!
