Mattia Felici’s words, the Cagliari winger, after the 1-1 draw earned by the Rossoblù at Milan’s “Giuseppe Meazza.”
A NEW STEP
“I’ve struggled a bit with being on the bench, but it’s normal to bite the bullet when you’re not playing regularly. I hope to keep going like this; I’m working hard and following the coach’s instructions. I want to make the most of my chance in Serie A as part of my journey, which has seen me go through various stages in different levels of Italian football. I believe everything is useful, and I need to make the most of it. My role? I like starting out wide to take on defenders or to cut inside, getting closer to the striker in a trequartista role. Either way, I’m available depending on the game plan. What do I need to improve? The use of my weaker foot, my left, but there are many areas where I need to work on.”
CONSTANT GROWTH
“I have to and I can do more. The coach is very demanding, but I also know that we always need to push and ask for more than what we’ve already done. Today’s performance helps us a lot mentally, beyond the standings. We know we have to fight hard and climb up, but with performances like this, we can definitely achieve some satisfaction. My debut at San Siro? An enormous emotion. I’ve watched games from the stands, and now I can finally say I’ve played there. It’s a shame about the missed goal, but Maignan made a great save, as the champion he is. I had fun today. When you step onto the pitch at San Siro, the field seems enormous, and you can’t quite make out the boundaries between the pitch and the stands. Personally, I don’t feel any particular pressure. I love playing football and I try to make my mark, learning from experiences and also from having experienced players by my side. We were good at staying focused, playing our game, responding blow for blow. When you face big teams like Milan, you have to have courage and personality, and Cagliari showed that today.”
FOCUS ON LECCE
“I spent three years in Lecce, where I made my debut in Serie B. It’s a direct clash, so starting tomorrow, we’ll begin thinking about it, working as always at full capacity to be ready to face a team that’s doing well and, like us, is chasing the survival goal.”
