POST-MATCH | Mendy (MVP) and Borrelli

On the sidelines of Cagliari’s 3-2 victory over Atalanta, Rossoblu striker Paul Mendy—making his first-team debut and scoring a brace (as well as his first goals in Serie A and as a professional)—spoke to DAZN to discuss his dream evening. Below are his comments, with the MVP award in hand. Gennaro Borrelli, who scored the winning goal early in the second half, was at his side.

“I’m incredibly happy, I’m so excited. This is an important victory for our survival. We worked hard in training, and what we tried worked really well. When the coach told me I’d be coming on as a starter, I was thrilled. I really wanted to prove my worth to him, but also to the people of Cagliari and our fans. I left because I felt a bit of a tug of war, but I hope to return to the pitch soon.”

Gennaro Borrelli’s words: “I’m happy with the goal; it helped us secure three crucial points. We deserved the win, now we have to achieve our goal of staying up. Three important points against a strong team: it means a lot to us, the result of everyone’s daily work. Now we have to finish the season on a high note. The injury? I felt a tingling sensation in the back of my leg: I hope it’s nothing serious and I can play a few more games.”
