Rossoblù midfielder Jacopo Fazzini analysed the Coppa Italia match against Hellas Verona at the Unipol Domus. Here are his words:

ON THE MATCH
“We didn’t approach the first half well, and we said so to each other at half-time. We had also prepared a few things in the build-up that we weren’t able to put into practice: we left Mendy too isolated and were too slow defensively. In the second half, we adjusted a few tactical aspects, tried to turn things around and had managed to do so, but then they scored the 2-1 with just a few minutes to go. We’re aware that we have a lot of work to do and that we need to improve. With the Coach and the staff, we’ll put right what didn’t work today.”

LEARNING FROM MISTAKES
“It’s a defeat that hurts: we wanted to go through to the next round, and it was a goal that was within our reach. There’s a lot of regret. This match teaches us that every game has to be played; there are no foregone conclusions or impossible matches. We showed that ourselves against Inter, when we came close to equalising late on. I’m positive, and we’re confident in what we’re doing. We’ll take the reaction we showed today into our next game and move forward compact and united. It’s a very important match, we know that, and we have to prepare for it in the best possible way. Our fans, as they did today, will give us a great boost. We want to give our supporters the victory they deserve.”

MENDY’S DEVELOPMENT
“Paul is a great lad, he’s young, and he deserves to enjoy moments like today, even though unfortunately his goal wasn’t enough. He has to keep working; he has all the potential to go on to have a great career.”

WORKING FOR THE TEAM
“My performance today? I can do better. I still need to find the right level of fitness, but I’m not looking for excuses. I can still improve, and I need to find consistency in my performances. My position? I like all the midfield roles: as a box-to-box midfielder, as an attacking midfielder. I can play in different positions depending on the game and the team’s needs. I’ll always make myself available.”

REPAYING THE TRUST
“I’m very keen to bounce back. After a season like the one I had last year, it would be strange if I wasn’t. I want to prove my worth, I want to do well, and Cagliari is the ideal place for me. My adaptation here is going very well. The Club, the team, the staff and the fans have all welcomed me incredibly well. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Now it’s up to me to repay the trust that everyone is putting in me.”
