At the end of the match between Bologna and Cagliari, Michael Folorunsho met with the media to comment on the match. These are his words:
AN EXCELLENT POINT
“It was a very important match. We were playing against a great team, and we did our best to get the three points. We had several chances, but it’s a shame we weren’t able to capitalize on them. That’s why there’s a hint of disappointment. But we still got an excellent result on a difficult pitch, and it’s a point that brings us ever closer to securing safety. The duel with De Silvestri? We fought it out the whole match, but always with the utmost fair play; they’re just clashes of skill.”
GROUP STRENGTH
“Before we hit a difficult period, our season had been quiet: there was even a moment when we were 11 points above the relegation zone. We were having a great season, then we faced several difficulties that slowed us down a bit. We did well to regroup, we achieved other important results: at that moment the group showed. If it hadn’t been there, it would have been really hard to get through it. We have a truly fantastic group, these aren’t just empty words. We get along well with each other, we give each other strength, also thanks to the coach, who was always there for us in the most difficult moments, helping us, always putting himself at the forefront for the group. And that made the difference. This team has always recovered from bad moments, even winning games against the odds. Now we have to continue like this.”
THE COACH
“From the very first moments, I was immediately impressed by the coach: in addition to his great desire to do his best, to pass on everything he has inside us—which is a lot—I found him to be a very well-prepared coach, who doesn’t seem to be coaching for the first time in Serie A. Even on a human level, he gives us so much, and we can only reciprocate all of this on the pitch to achieve our goals. The coach, along with us, had to face many difficulties: numerous injuries that forced him to reshape the team on several occasions. But he never made us feel the difficulties of the moment, when the victories weren’t coming: he was good at always keeping us united, always believing in us, giving us that extra push to help us get out of that moment. I’m really happy to have him as a coach.”
TOWARDS THE GOAL
After the injury, I struggled to regain my match rhythm, but now I feel better and am getting back to my best form. I’m happy, I want to have a great end to the season to help secure survival. Cagliari is a city that welcomed me from the start, with the team, the coach, the president, the club, and the entire environment. We had a great connection from the very first days. I’m very happy with the choice I made last summer; we’ll talk about the future at the end of the season. The national team? It’s always been everyone’s dream, since we were kids: I was lucky and pleased to be part of the Azzurri squad, and it’s always a goal. But to get back there, we need more. If that opportunity arises in the future, we’ll have to be ready.
THE POSITION
“I feel more like a midfielder, but I’ve played everywhere over the years. I’m someone who always makes himself available to the team. If needed, I’ll also play in goal, even though we have a goalkeeper who’s doing quite well, I’d say (laughs). In difficult moments, if we need to make sacrifices, we have to do so, and we’ve done it very well. It’s no coincidence that we’re one step away from staying up: it’s all the result of our sacrifice and the commitment we’ve put in since the start of the season.”
