Press conference on the eve of the final Serie A season EniLive for Fabio Pisacane, coach of Cagliari who will face Milan at San Siro. Below are the words of the rossoblù coach.
THE MATCH IN MILAN
“There’s still one match left, pressure is part of our job. Motivations can change, but not professionalism. We’re going to Milan to play our match, within our real possibilities, trying to put into practice what we’ve prepared. Who plays? Caprile will be in goal. There’s someone who trained this week, making me understand that he would have wanted to leave his mark at all costs, he has a better chance of starting from the beginning. We know we’re facing a team that has a big goal ahead of us: I hope that our lightness of mind allows us to do even better than we tried during the week. Every match, every time we take the field, we have to honor the shirt, the Earth that we represent.
THE ABSENCES
Folorunsho will be out due to a muscle strain, Idrissi and Pavoletti are continuing their recovery work. We won’t have Kilicsoy: he asked us to bring forward his return to Istanbul. Coaching means making decisions every day: some are understood immediately, others take more time. But every decision I’ve made has always put the group before the individual. I hope Semih thinks about what he could have done better this season, that he can take the positives from this experience. No one has ever forced anything on me regarding his management. Everyone on the team deserved even a single minute of what they were given. I live the day-to-day, the team, the locker room. Everything I do, I try to do with consistency and conscience. I knew I had a talent in my hands, but this talent must understand that to reach certain levels, you need more than that. Semih still has a lot to show for it.
OBERT IS GROWING
“I expected Adam’s growth. I remember my first match on the Cagliari bench, when I went on the bench on an interim basis in the match against Cosenza: I didn’t hesitate to put Obert in at the center of the defense together with Dossena. I wanted to coach him this season too, despite there being some interest in him from other clubs: he’s a footballer born in 2002, he’s attractive, he steals the eye. He’s so talented, I’m happy because this great talent has finally blossomed. I expect him to do well tomorrow. a match along the lines of the good season he had: a match with great attention to all aspects, with the usual attention, a factor that allowed him to establish himself this year.”
WELCOME BACK, MATTIA!
“Felici will be part of the squad. I’d like to give him—if the conditions are right—the chance to take to the field again, even if it’s just for a minute. He deserves it; it would be a fitting reward for a guy who’s been unlucky. He had to stop in his prime: we lost a key player, and he had to interrupt his career, which he’ll surely resume. He’s a player who has everything it takes to reclaim the spotlight.”
THE VALUE OF WORK
“I have always put Cagliari before everything. When last week I said that at the beginning of the season I hoped to be on the Cagliari bench on matchday 37, it was because I thought so, that’s how I am. I consider myself a humble person, I have built my future on the past, both from a footballing point of view and in life. An obstacle to overcome for me is petrol. This has allowed me to grow this year, to be a better person. But that doesn’t mean I feel like I have arrived. An unwritten rule applies in football, the “verb” of today: everything you do today counts, what you did until yesterday no longer counts. Now in my mind there is the match against Milan, the desire to play a strong match, to amaze and make people proud. We must make sure that at the end of the year the fans can say that the team represented them. Let’s think about what we really want to do.”
THE VICTORIES AGAINST ROMA AND CREMONESE
“There are two matches from this season that I carry with me, two victories. The one against Roma at home: winning in the world in which we did it, after a series of negative results, made us turn around. The other is, again at the Unipol Domus, against Cremonese: in that case too, as we had experienced in the first round, we were coming from matches in which the results had not arrived. Winning that match gave us a charge of energy which then allowed us to make the final rush to conquer of the objective”.
ON THE FUTURE
“The meeting with the club? First, let’s finish the season. You all know that there’s an ongoing and transparent dialogue with the club. My bond with Cagliari goes beyond a contract. There’s complete trust. We’ll meet, also to understand the club’s intentions. I thanked President Giulini, it was my duty. He saw something in me that even I didn’t imagine I had a few years ago. I’ve also had the opportunity to speak several times with Vice President Fiori, as well as with other investors. But there will be time to discuss my future.”
THE U20 OF CAGLIARI CALCIO
“Before leaving for Naples, I wished the staff, Coach Gallego, and the team the best of luck: they’ll be playing an important match for the club and for their careers. I hope they can return home with a smile. After the match, it’s possible some of the boys will be able to join us in Milan.”
