Ranieri Before Lecce-Cagliari

First Team - 04/01/2024

Claudio Ranieri met with the media in the press room at the CRAI Sport Center on the eve of Lecce-Cagliari, analyzing the team’s current situation and previewing the upcoming match.

“I was disappointed with how we fell apart after conceding the goal in Milan. We had started well, competing, and had good opportunities to take the lead. However, we couldn’t react to our mistakes, we unraveled, and that shouldn’t happen. I didn’t like it, and the boys know it: I’m not talking about effort or running; that was there. But running alone is not enough; you have to apply tactics. If you’re not compact against players with quality, you risk the performance we had.”

“The infirmary is emptying: Dossena, Augello, and Nandez trained with the team; Pavoletti and Prati not yet. Is it Oristanio’s moment? He’s a great player who has always given his all: determined and tenacious, I really like that about him. Makoumbou is very important for us; with Prati, they’ve formed a great partnership until now, helping each other a lot. We’ll see how he is on Saturday. Jankto is a bit under the weather; he didn’t train, and we will evaluate him.”

“We must be positive; it won’t be an easy season, and we knew that. Against Empoli, we fought a battle, similar to what we’ll do in Lecce, I’m sure. It’s a very important game, although not decisive. Lecce is a very aggressive team that applies high pressure, like Empoli. They will try to beat us to stay ahead, but we will give our all. We have difficulties, the fans must understand that and stand by us. We all need to stay together; only then can we stay in Serie A. We will fight until the end.”
