Under 19, Pisacane’s words

Youth Sector - 16 March 2024

Coach Fabio Pisacane can only smile after his Under 19 team’s 1-0 win at Juventus with a goal by Sofiane Achour in the 61st minute. The coach’s post-match analysis.

GREAT SATISFACTION
“We came from a defeat that matured in conditions that had prevented Cagliari from playing soccer, and we are not used to derogating from the pursuit of certain principles, because of what we work on and the characteristics of the group. Today’s success is the result of these months in which we have all grown together working every day, we are a team that is aware of its means, knows its limits and does not accept an alibi to explain a defeat or a less positive moment. It will always be my credo and I try to pass it on to the boys, who follow me so much and are a pleasure to work with.”

THE MATCH
“It was a complicated match as we knew it would be, where reasoning and intelligence were needed, it would have been unthinkable to go ninety minutes on the attack, in the final we certainly had to manage it better to avoid excessive risks. We did something wrong and so the match remained in the balance, in the second half I inserted Marini also to lift Idrissi and take Juventus man-to-man, and we managed to compact further.”

STILL WORKING
“There is still a long way to go and there is important room for growth, the boys know that we have to stay on the ball when things are going well and when there are more complicated moments. we have to grow mentally, sometimes youth leads you to have shortcomings, however, time is this group’s ally.”

OFFENSIVE DUO
“I don’t like to talk about individuals, certainly everyone has to grow because only then can they reach the top. Vinciguerra and Achour? Alessandro has to understand the importance of making the right choice in the finishing phase, so he can increase his soccer background, and on Achour’s goal he did very well; Sofiane is extremely practical, with a great killer instinct, ballistically he has great skills. At the beginning of the season, when we were practicing free kicks in training, he always came close, and this made me smile. Then in Budoni we had a preseason friendly and he scored a goal on a free kick, at that point I re-evaluated him. He has great personality, every free kick he wants to kick, that’s a great quality.”
