Cagliari-Sassuolo, The Match

First Team - 11/01/2023

A sensational red and blue victory at Unipol Domus thanks to two great goals in injury time from our forwards, overturning the goal scored in the first half by Erlic: first Lapa, then Pavo with an overhead kick in the last minute. The stadium erupts, three crucial points, and another crazy win.

FALLING BEHIND EARLY
A challenging start to the first half, with Sassuolo immediately threatening and having three significant chances. The main one was from Matheus Henrique, who received from the left and headed toward the goal: a miraculous save by Scuffet. From the third consecutive corner, Erlic scored the opening goal in the 6th minute. Sassuolo pushed forward, but Cagliari’s reaction grew progressively stronger. Lapadula was always active, Prati’s header found Castillejo, who cleared the ball off the line. Despite creating numerous crosses and corners, the decisive touch was lacking, with Oristanio, Nandez, and Viola orchestrating the charge. At halftime, it was 0-1, with doubts about contact in the box between Lapadula and Tressoldi (already cautioned), which neither VAR nor Mariani investigated further.

COMPLETED ASSAULT
The second half started sluggishly, with Cagliari struggling to create opportunities, while Sassuolo retained possession and threatened the area without taking shots. In the 59th minute, Luvumbo and Pavoletti were brought in to change the dynamics. Shortly after, a lengthy stoppage in play occurred due to Tressoldi’s high kick to Lapadula, causing a facial injury and bleeding. Tressoldi received a red card, and the game continued. High intensity and battling on the field, but chances were scarce, except for some scrappy moments in the Emilian box that failed to produce a goal, leaving the supporters in suspense. At the 88th minute, Pavoletti’s header was cleared off the line by Matheus Henrique, reminiscent of Castillejo’s save in the first half. On the counterattack in the 90th minute, Bajrami scored the 2-0, but it was disallowed by VAR after a lengthy consultation in Lissone.

LAPA-GOAL, PAVO THE MIRACLE-WORKER!
In the 94th minute, Lapadula found the deserved equalizer, with Unipol Domus pushing as only it knows how. A furious push led Luvumbo to deliver a cross, Lapadula chested it down, and with his right foot, he leveled the score. The final assault was thrilling: Pavoletti’s overhead kick, an incredible goal, and the stadium erupted. Another victory for Cagliari, for those who never give up.
