Match Report | Cagliari-Hellas Verona

First Team - 1 April 2024

The Easter monday match between Cagliari and Verona ended 1-1. A hard-fought match that saw the Veneti take the lead through Bonazzoli in the 30th minute, only to be retaken in the second half by Sulemana. An important point that allows us to look forward to next Sunday’s challenge against Atalanta.

LINE UP
Luvumbo and Mina, both recovered during the break, return among the starters. Confirmed for the rest were Zappa, Dossena and Augello in front of Scuffet with Makoumbou and Deiola in the middle. Lapadula, Shomurodov and Nandez complete the eleven.

VERONA AHEAD WITH BONAZZOLI
After 30 minutes of substantial equilibrium, with Cagliari dangerous on several occasions thanks to Nandez’s escapades on the right, it was Verona who suddenly unblocked the result with a left-footed shot from Bonazzoli that beat the blameless Scuffet.

DOWN BY ONE AT HALF-TIME
The reaction of Ranieri’s boys was immediate, but the guests defended with order and did not concede any particular chances to the red-blues, who went to the break down by one goal.

REACTION IN THE SECOND HALF
The second half seemed to start on an upward slope when Lazovic sealed the double, which was cancelled out for offside by VAR. In Cagliari, meanwhile, the interpreters changed as Viola, Sulemana, Oristanio and Prati entered.

THE SULEMANA TIE
It was the Ghanaian midfielder himself who levelled the score when he unleashed a counter-attacking right-footer from the edge of the area that left Montipoò no chance and fixed the result at 1-1.

ENDS IN A DRAW
In the final the chances of victory passed from the feet of Luvumbo, good at creating them, not so lucky in the realisation, neutralised by the excellent interventions of the host goalkeeper. The triple whistle decreed a draw between Cagliari and Verona.
