MATCH REPORT | Cagliari-Genoa 1-1

First Team - 08/03/2025

Home draw for Cagliari, who drew 1-1 with Genoa at the Unipol Domus. One goal per half, with Viola putting the Rossoblù ahead, followed by the equalizer early in the second half from Cornet. A point that weighs heavily in the standings as the battle for survival is set to intensify.

Nicola opts for Coman and Zortea on the flanks, with Viola supporting Piccoli. In front of Caprile are Zappa, Luperto, Mina, and Obert. Deiola and Makoumbou are the two central midfielders.

Cagliari dominates the first half, frequently threatening Leali’s goal, although they fail to land the decisive strike. Genoa tries with Cornet (a cross just off target for the oncoming Ekuban), but they can’t capitalize on their chances. Then, Piccoli makes a breakaway and scores what seems like the 1-0, but it’s ruled offside by a few millimeters. Shortly after, another long ball to Piccoli, who controls brilliantly and sets up Viola; a difficult touch followed by a precise left-footed shot for the lead. Coman gets injured and is replaced by Augello.

The second half sees Genoa quickly equalize: Cornet arrives at the far post to meet a perfect cross from Zanoli on the right. At this point, Genoa gains confidence and control of the game, while Cagliari struggles to find the balance they had in the first half. The best chance for Genoa comes in the 59th minute, when De Winter heads just wide of the goal.

In the second half, Nicola opts for Gaetano and Adopo in place of Viola and Makoumbou, then brings on Prati and Pavoletti to switch back to a 4-4-2 formation, but the change doesn’t manage to make an impact. It thus ends 1-1.
